The traditional craft of flat weaving is one that dates back to antiquity with a legacy rooted in many cultures around the globe. Woven rather than knotted, flatweave rugs lack the thickness and pile found in knotted rugs, making them highly versatile, easy to transport, and extremely dynamic (many are reversible!). At Samad we produce five flatweave collections, each one unique in its style and production process.

Sunrise Collection

Sunrise Flatweaves Collection. Casual and rustic, this remarkable collection loosely draws its inspiration from the African Congo, Pre-Columbian motifs, Central American design aesthetics, and the American Southwest. Sunrise Flatweaves are made with 100% hand-spun wool and use a unique spinning process, which produces a bulky, inconsistent yarn strand to increase the texture of the rugs. The wool is dyed entirely by hand in small batches using all natural vegetable dyes. The handcrafted nature and unrefined texture of Sunrise Flatweaves ensure that no two pieces are ever exactly alike.

Rio Grande Collection

Rio Grande Collection. This collection is inspired by antique kilims made by the nomadic tribes of Turkey and Iran. Hand-woven with 100% wool and cotton, Rio Grande flatweaves offer colorful geometric designs that are also reversible!

Vista Collection

Vista Collection. These flatweave rugs comprise detailed, textured flatweaves that are hand-woven in China. With playful geometric shapes and a warm and inviting color palette, Vista rugs offer a simple rustic beauty that can be found in our everyday surroundings.

Metropolitan Collection

Metropolitan Collection. Looming skyscrapers and city skylines are the inspiration behind the Metropolitan Flatweave Collection. With an emphasis on organized symmetry, these colorful designs are made with wool and adorned with sari silk multicolored squares, which offer a distinctly modern vision.
